Tankoa Yachts entered the luxury market in late 2008, establishing its footprint in the historic shipbuilding district of Genoa Sestri Ponente.

Founded by seasoned executives with extensive expertise in large-scale builds, the company positioned itself as a boutique shipyard focused entirely on steel and aluminum custom superyachts starting from 45 meters in length. The core concept revolves around low-volume, high-quality production, ensuring that only a few highly personalized projects leave the sheds each year.

The infrastructure behind the brand has grown significantly to support an expanding order book. Operations are spread across a 20,000-square-meter headquarters in Genoa and a newly developed 34,000-square-meter industrial hub in the port of Civitavecchia. The two sites function as a unified production platform.

Heavy steelwork, initial hull assembly, and early systems installation take place at the Civitavecchia facility, which currently manages multiple complex builds simultaneously. Once structural work is complete, the hulls are transferred by sea to Genoa, where climate-controlled sheds host the final outfitting, carpentry work, luxury interior installation, and rigorous sea trials.

Engineering precision and a proactive stance on environmental impact serve as technical baselines for the company. Tankoa Yachts has gained industry recognition for integrating sustainable practices into large displacement hulls, earning accolades like the Platinum Green Plus certification for the 72-meter superyacht Solo. The technical teams design hulls optimized for long-range cruising and transatlantic capability, utilizing modern propulsion setups and advanced insulation systems to minimize sound, vibration, and emissions.

Collaboration with elite design studios forms the backbone of the portfolio. While the brand maintains a close, long-standing relationship with legendary designer Francesco Paszkowski — who penned iconic lines for successful series like the S501 and the T450 — the yard remains entirely flexible, frequently collaborating with other prominent naval architects or accommodating the client’s own chosen design professionals.

The build philosophy treats each superyacht as a clean-sheet collaborative journey. Clients are involved directly in the structural and aesthetic choices, allowing the final layout to mirror their specific lifestyle, whether that demands expansive beach clubs, touch-and-go helipads, or customized wellness areas.

By keeping activities mostly in-house and employing around 300 skilled specialists across its supply chain, the company maintains absolute oversight over every weld, pipe fitting, and varnish layer until the final handover.
