Superyacht Builders Association (SYBAss)

Headquarters:
Amsterdam
Founded:
2007

SYBAss serves as the representative body for the world’s leading large yacht builders. The association facilitates communication between members, clients, and the wider industry. By providing a unified professional platform, the association allows members to share common interests and address challenges across the industry.

Established in 2007, the association emerged to bridge the gap between commercial regulations and the requirements of the leisure sector. A significant milestone occurred in 2011 when SYBAss secured consultative status at the IMO.

The industry is responsible for a fleet of over 1,800 yachts exceeding 40 m, with nearly half built in the last decade. As primary investors in production facilities and employers of skilled craftsmen, builders require structural support that transcends individual competitive borders. The association plays a key role in advocating for these builders on a global scale.

Beyond regulatory involvement, the association manages how builders are exhibited at shows by negotiating premium, central positions. Initiatives also include the creation of The Superyacht Life Foundation to improve public perception and the establishment of the Water Revolution Foundation to drive sustainability. Furthermore, the association produces key reports to measure economic impact and enhance professionalism within the sector.

The 24 members collectively account for 67% of yachts over 40 m LOA. These builders are located in countries ranging from Australia to the United States. The members play an active part in the global association to ensure the interests of builders remain at the forefront of the industry.
