Törkmar
Törkmar produces high-torque Permanent Magnet AC (PMAC) inboard electric motors created specifically for boats navigating inland waterways.
By winding these PMAC motors for low-speed applications below 1,000 RPM, the company achieves the highest torque rating in its category. This distinct design gives the propulsion units enough power to turn large propellers smoothly without running hot, which keeps cooling requirements to an absolute minimum.
Driving a larger propeller dramatically increases blade surface area compared to standard setups. A 20-inch propeller offers more than double the surface area of a 13-inch alternative, allowing the propulsion system to move water far more effectively. The result is strong, reliable power delivery combined with exceptionally low energy consumption.
Quiet operation stands out as a hallmark of the range. The electric drive runs almost silently, reducing noise on the water down to little more than the gentle splash around the hull. This focus on conserving every single watt extends battery range without sacrificing output.
To streamline installation for boat builders, Törkmar incorporates a high-capacity double row angular contact bearing directly inside the sealed motor housing. This internal bearing handles both heavy axial thrust from the propeller and radial forces, doing away with the need for bulky external thrust blocks.
Beyond saving valuable engine room space, the sealed unit keeps out contaminants to lower maintenance demands and extend operating life.
