The Cruising Association

The Cruising Association is a volunteer-led organisation dedicated to supporting small boat cruising enthusiasts across the globe. Founded in 1908, the organisation has grown to incorporate over 6,000 members, counting prominent sailors such as patron Sir Robin Knox-Johnston among its long-standing community.

Member-driven governance forms the foundation of the organisation. Managed by members for members, overall strategic direction comes from a volunteer board working alongside an executive chief operating officer. Every member retains a direct voice in institutional governance through the annual general meeting held each November.

Knowledge sharing remains a central focus, with members pooling firsthand cruising insights, navigational intelligence, and regional data through an extensive online resource network. To support sailors across popular cruising areas, dedicated member groups organize local informational networks, educational seminars, and coordinated rallies both within the UK and internationally.

Social connection plays an equally important role in daily operations. Dedicated volunteers design and execute regional gatherings, shore-based social events, and cruising rallies throughout the year, fostering a collaborative network for offshore and coastal cruisers.
