At Sasga Yachts, tradition and craftsmanship intertwine to bring each vessel to life. Since our humble beginnings in 1978, when Juan Sastre founded “Astilleros Menorca”, we have honored the island’s rich maritime heritage by building yachts that fuse classic elegance with modern innovation.

Juan Sastre lived his life with passion, a passion that marked every step of his path. Restless, visionary and dreamer, he knew how to capture the essence of the smallest of the Balearic Islands and project it into the vast international seas.

The same sea that forged his character, taught him to recognize no limits, making him an indisputable reference for the national nautical world. The passion of our founder is the essence that drives those who defy time, suspend it and, finally, transcend it, thus creating a timeless work.

THE FOUNDING MYTH

More than 60 years ago, Juan Sastre established his first nautical company in Menorca under the name Motonáutica Basilio, in honor of his father. In the early days, he sold small boats supplied by Petrus, a skilled craftsman mestre d’aixa. The business was thriving, but it was in 1978 when Petrus retired that Juan Sastre was faced with a dilemma.

This retirement would have marked the end for any other businessman. However, Mr. Sastre, a man of the sea, oblivious to defeats, decided to found the cradle of his legacy; Astilleros Menorca. At a time when a 33 span boat was the largest ship in the Port of Mahón, he decided to manufacture llaüts of up to 45 spans.

Thus, our founder began his journey to reach the most prestigious boat shows with his unique Menorcan boats. His unlimited enterprise would manage to keep alive the traditional silhouette of the llaüt in a modern nautical world. Loyal to their heritage, the Sastre family would engineer the evolution of the fishing boat to the innovative yachts we build today.
