Farr Yacht Design is a prominent naval architecture and engineering studio based in Annapolis, Maryland. Originally incorporated in 1981 by Bruce Farr and Russell Bowler, the firm has evolved into a multidisciplinary team of 13 specialists who provide an integrated suite of services, including research, styling, engineering, and project management.
The studio is recognized for its extensive record in competitive sailing, with 43 World Championships won by Farr-designed vessels. The team has been a primary influence in major international grand prix events, such as the Volvo Ocean Race, America’s Cup, Vendée Globe, and the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. This technical expertise, refined over more than 800 unique projects, serves as the foundation for both their racing and cruising designs.
The design process at the studio is highly systematic, incorporating oversight from senior members at critical milestones and utilizing data from leading wind tunnel and tank testing facilities. This research-driven approach is applied to a wide range of vessels, from high-performance custom racers to production cruising yachts.
