Ched Saildesign
Led by Charles-Edouard Broc, Ched Saildesign provides specialized sail design services built on hands-on industry experience dating back to 1987.
With a portfolio exceeding 10,000 sail drawings split between cruising and racing applications, the expertise encompasses everything from one-design fleets and classic gaff rigs to high-performance IMOCA and BOC Challenge setups, alongside complex traditional rigs requiring detailed handling of forestay loads.
Advanced design software including SMAR Azure and Sailpack forms the technical foundation for developing custom sail profiles. Designs accommodate four distinct shape styles based on boat size, incorporating cross-cut, radial-cut, or specialized fiber-layout constructions.
Every project includes tailored details such as reefs, patches, and draft stripes, delivered with NTV or DXF AAMA export files and panel-dimension PDFs.
Engineering custom fiber layouts for membrane sails forms a core technical focus. By working directly on 3D surfaces and converting them into 2D flat panels, complex combinations of UPE, aramid, and carbon fibers are arranged to control localized density and optimize finished sail cambers.
Technical support extends to full sailmaking documentation and fleet management. Services include compiling production information sheets with complete hardware and fabrication specifications for internal or outsourced lofts, as well as designing and updating sail chart diagrams based on real-world vessel performance.
